Silence resounds through the house after today’s departure. The space echoes, full of silence; full of tranquility. A clock ticks, marking the passing hours. Putting on my boots, I go for a walk by the ebbing tide. Hunting for rainbows on this mixed up day. The glowing sun peeps shyly from behind black clouds, bathing the sea in golden sunlight. Wind tugs at my hat, and sleet lashes my cheeks. Turning my back on the brightness, I search for a rainbow amongst the clouds. Behind me an oyster catcher takes flight, creeling an alarm at my presence. I turn and watch as wings flash in the receding light, silhouetted against the sunset. Perching on a rock in mimicry of the gulls, I wait. The sun slowly sidles out of view, blushing her way over the horizon to meet another dawn. The brightness remains, afterglow of light as I head for home.
